Two NNMC Engineering Programs earn re-accreditation from ABET

Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is pleased to announce that our bachelor's programs in Electromechanical Engineering Technology and Information Engineering Technology have been re-accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET. a nonprofit, ISO 9001-certified quality assurance organization. Through the accreditation of academic programs, recognition of credentials and assessment of student learning, ABET supports excellence in education worldwide. 

"Dr. Nandy and his team are providing life changing opportunities through Northern's Engineering Department, and this re-accreditation is an affirmation of the quality of their academic program and the tremendous impact that it has on our community,” said NNMC President Hector Balderas. 

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

“ABET is the apex accreditation agency for Engineering, and Engineering Technology programs, and the recognition by ABET is a true testament to the global quality standard of our programs,” said Dr. Ashis Nandy, Chair of Northern’s Engineering & Technology Department. “The accreditation by ABET of both of our Bachelor of Engineering programs at Northern speaks to the quality and rigor of the instruction that we offer to prepare our graduates for professions in the engineering field. It is a very important factor for our students, as it enhances employment, licensure and further educational opportunities.”

Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

ABET currently accredits 4,773 programs at 930 colleges and universities in 41 countries and areas as of Oct. 1, 2024.
